Global Elite Conversations
The Global Elite Conversations program engages middle school students in dynamic, virtual discussions on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These conversations create a space for young people from San Diego and Tema, Ghana, to explore global issues through the lens of everyday life, while developing leadership and cross-cultural communication skills.
How It Works
- Virtual forums: Monthly video sessions connecting students in both cities
- SDG themes: Each session focuses on a specific goal (e.g., clean water, quality education, climate action)
- Student leadership: Youth participants moderate, share perspectives, and propose solutions relevant to their own communities
- Facilitated dialogue: Teachers and program leaders provide guiding questions and ensure constructive, respectful exchanges
Educational Impact
Through Global Elite Conversations, students gain:
- Awareness of the United Nations SDGs and how they apply locally and globally
- Practice in public speaking, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving
- Cross-cultural friendships that reinforce empathy and global citizenship
Why It Matters
The program equips young people to see themselves as agents of change. By tackling real-world challenges together, students learn that their voices matter — and that international collaboration starts with dialogue across borders.
